The Creeping Terror – Stickleback Faces The Horrors From Beyond

Cover art by D’Israeli

It’s all ending in Judge Dredd this week – specifically the life of PJ Maybe’s latest victim who gets drowned in jelly and I mean, if you’ve gotta go in MC-1 there are worse ways.

Stickleback, Kingdom and Strontium Dog are also nearing their ends. Special mention must be made of an excellent cameo in Stickleback of one Dick (Richard) Sharpe. He doesn’t last long but it’s quite fun to see him.

True Brit! 2000 AD Explodes the Cool Britannia Myth

Cover art by Dermot Power

Happy 21st Birthday 2000 AD! This is how we partied in 1998 – Judge Dredd and Mean Machine Angel go to Scotland and butt heads with a mutant clan; Nikolai Dante visits Britannia and saves the mad King Henry from being deposed; and Sinister Dexter go after Bob Hoskins and Michael Caine.

Meanwhile B.L.AI.R. 1 features a procession of late nineties pop culture cameos – Mystic Meg! Bob Monkhouse! Emma Bunton! Wotsisname Keith from The Prodigy! Paul McCartney!

B.L.A.I.R. 1 might just be the ultimate dodgy joke stretched way too far and I hope this is now the last we’ll see of it.

Durham Red takes a break this week as there is no way it would have fit into the Cool Britannia theme but we will get a double-length episode next prog – but that’s not next week because in 1998 this issue was on sale for a fortnight! A precursor to the xmas progs of the 2000′s.

In this prog:

Judge Dredd: Headbangers
Script: John Wagner / Art: Alex Ronald / Colours: Gary Cauldwell / Letters: Tom Frame

Nikolai Dante: Cruel Britannia
Script: Robbie Morrison / Art: Simon Fraser / Colours: Alison Kirkpatrck / Letters: Annie Parkhouse

B.L.A.I.R. 1: Criminal Record
Script: Alan Grant / Art: SB Davis / Letters: Annie Parkhouse

Sinister Dexter: London Town
Script: Dan Abnett / Art: Greg Staples / Letters: Ellie De Ville

Kingdom Come? Gene The Hackman At The Mercy Of Them

Cover art by Richard Elson

Happy 31st birthday, 2000 AD! Not that you’d know it from reading the prog – I only just noticed the banner across the cover as I was sitting down to write this. Still, the wealth of thrills inside the issue is a gift in and of itself – we don’t need any more.In mean, look at this artwork – Richard Elson on Kingdom, D’Israeli on Stickleback and Carlos Ezquerra on Strontium Dog are pulling out all the stops.
