Kiss Me Deadly! Can Judge Dredd Catch The Angel of Mercy?

Sláine returns! Our favourite Celtic warrior is still hanging around in 13th century France, trying to find a way to free Niamh’s soul from its prison within the embalmed corpse of Simon De Montfort. Looking at it written down like that, it’s a wierd idea for a story, eh?

True Brit! 2000 AD Explodes the Cool Britannia Myth

Cover art by Dermot Power

Happy 21st Birthday 2000 AD! This is how we partied in 1998 – Judge Dredd and Mean Machine Angel go to Scotland and butt heads with a mutant clan; Nikolai Dante visits Britannia and saves the mad King Henry from being deposed; and Sinister Dexter go after Bob Hoskins and Michael Caine.

Meanwhile B.L.AI.R. 1 features a procession of late nineties pop culture cameos – Mystic Meg! Bob Monkhouse! Emma Bunton! Wotsisname Keith from The Prodigy! Paul McCartney!

B.L.A.I.R. 1 might just be the ultimate dodgy joke stretched way too far and I hope this is now the last we’ll see of it.

Durham Red takes a break this week as there is no way it would have fit into the Cool Britannia theme but we will get a double-length episode next prog – but that’s not next week because in 1998 this issue was on sale for a fortnight! A precursor to the xmas progs of the 2000′s.

In this prog:

Judge Dredd: Headbangers
Script: John Wagner / Art: Alex Ronald / Colours: Gary Cauldwell / Letters: Tom Frame

Nikolai Dante: Cruel Britannia
Script: Robbie Morrison / Art: Simon Fraser / Colours: Alison Kirkpatrck / Letters: Annie Parkhouse

B.L.A.I.R. 1: Criminal Record
Script: Alan Grant / Art: SB Davis / Letters: Annie Parkhouse

Sinister Dexter: London Town

Watch The Skies! Is This The End For The Men In Black?

Cover art by Dermot Power

In regards to the question posed by the cover – no, this is not the end for the Men in Black. However, we are nearing the end. Vector 13 closes it’s current run this prog but it will be back for at least one more batch of episodes later this year.

Judge Dredd: Missing also concludes this week with a satisfying wrap up involving a weaponised chandelier. Sinister Dexter was a bit of a weird one this week but a superb one-off Nikolai Dante more than compensates.

Next week is going to be interesting as 2000 AD celebrates it’s 21st birthday with a 48 page special – which was on sale for two weeks, a precurser to the 21st century’s christmas specials perhaps.

In this prog:

Judge Dredd: Missing
Script: John Wagner / Art: Lee Sullivan / Colours: Alan Craddock / Letters: Tom Frame

Sinister Dexter: The Merry Weirdo
Script: Dan Abnett / Art: Neal Brand / Letters: Ellie De Ville
